چکیده

Reliability is becoming a major design concern in contemporary microprocessors since soft error rate is increasing due to technology scaling. Therefore, design time system vulnerability estimation is of paramount importance. Architectural Vulnerability Factor (AVF) is an early vulnerability estimation methodology. However, AVF considers that the value of a bit in a clock cycle is either required for Architecturally Correct Execution (i.e. ACE-bit) or not (i.e. unACE-bit); therefore, AVF cannot distinguish the vulnerability impact level of an ACE-bit. In this study, we present a new dimension which takes into account the vulnerability impact level of a bit. We introduce Bit Impact Factor metric which, we believe, will be helpful for extending AVF evaluation to provide a more accurate vulnerability analysis. 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Theoretical Evaluation of some NESSIE Candidates regarding their Susceptibility towards Power Analysis Attacks

In this paper, we discuss the vulnerability of dedicated hardware implementations and software implementations on standard microprocessors of some NESSIE candidates. We assess their vulnerability against power attacks based on theoretical assumptions on their particular implementation. Furthermore, we investigate the possibilities to protect them against power attacks. Based on these investigat...

Confronting the Coffee Crisis: Can Fair Trade, Organic, and Specialty Coffees Reduce Small-Scale Farmer Vulnerability in Northern Nicaragua?

— This paper links changing global coffee markets to opportunities and vulnerabilities for sustaining small-scale farmer livelihoods in northern Nicaragua. Changing governance structures, corporate concentration, oversupply, interchangeable commodity grade beans, and low farm gate prices characterize the crisis in conventional coffee markets. In contrast, certified Fair Trade and organic are tw...

Dynamics of Risk Perception Towards Mutual Fund Investment Decisions

The present paper measures the risk perception of the bank employees in respect of investment in mutual fund and to identify the factors affecting risk perception. The paper also attempts to find out the impact of these factors on overall risk perception. The study is based on primary data collected by using questionnaire from the bank employees in Tripura state of India. For the analysis of da...

Quantized AVF : A Means of Capturing Vulnerability Variations over Small Windows of Time

Architectural vulnerability factor (AVF) is the probability that a transient fault in a bit, gate, or transistor becomes a user-visible error. AVFs vary widely across time, applications, and bits. Usually AVFs averaged over time and across applications are used to compute the overall soft error rate of a processor. Average AVFs, however, cannot express the short-term vulnerability variations of...
